IHG Priceless Surprises Promo: Update #2

IHG Priceless Surprises Promo: Update #2

Last week I wrote about receiving 58,000 IHG points from my postcard entries for IHG's Priceless Surprises promotion. Well, looky-loo, it's time to see how many points Rachel racked up!

Just as I had an issue with actually getting my entries sent to me, Rachel had to email Hello World (questions@helloworldfullfilment.com) to inquire about her entries as well. I double and triple checked the number of both of our entries before sending them out, so I know 94 of them got sent out. However, Hello World said that they only received 91. Oh well, a 98% success rate for free points isn't something to complain about!

IHG Priceless Surprises Promo: Update #1

Background

Remember when I wrote about writing 94 post cards to win 47,000 points? Well guess what? I finally received the email links for me to win some points!

I had sent out my 94 envelopes back in December, but still hadn't heard anything in January. I didn't think too much of it, as many bloggers, along with those who participated, stated that it took a while for them to receive the game play emails for their entries. However, when I sent off my wife's 94 post cards on the last day of the promotion, February 15th, and still had not heard back, that's when I started to worry.

I emailed Hello World, which was the company handling the promotion at questions@helloworldfullfilment.com, and while they did take a couple of days, they did eventually get back to me. I provided them with my IHG rewards account number, they verified that my 94 entries were received, and then I promptly received my email link to play my Priceless Surprises!

My Points Haul

As I mentioned in my initial post, there was a supposed minimum of 500 points per entry, but I seemed to have done better than that! This is the breakdown of what I won:

  • 89 x 500 Points = 44,500 Points
  • 2 - 1000 Points = 2,000 Points
  • 1 - 2000 Points = 2,000 Points
  • 2 - 5000 Points = 10,000 Points

Total: 58,500 Points

So as you can see, I actually made out better than 500 points per entry!

Conclusion

A couple hours of writing, some cramped fingers, and approximately $55 worth of supplies, netted me 58,500 IHG rewards points! These are worth approximately $330, but could be worth more based on how you redeem them. IHG releases a list of PointBreaks hotels each quarter, where you can redeem a night for only 5,000 points. So the 58,000 points I netted could potentially mean 11, almost 12, free nights! While we would definitely maximize our points by staying at hotels on the PointsBreaks list, it is a fairly limited list. We do have a potential trip to Hong Kong planned for next spring, and so I may redeem these points at the Intercontinental (60,000 points/night). I may still need 2,000 points to be able to so, but good thing I have the benefit of my wife, and another 94 entries coming in!

Win 47,000 Points for About $55

Details

IHG (Intercontinental Hotel Group) currently has a promotion called Priceless Surprises. There are ways to earn points through stays at hotels that are part of their IHG brand portfolio, but the best part is, there is a way to win points without any stays! All you have to do is fill out a couple of 3x5 cards with some information, put it in the mail, and receive "surprises" as well! You have until FEBRUARY 15, 2016, to send in your written entries!

There is no guarantee of how many points per entry, but for those who have entered so far, there seems to be at least a minimum of 500 points/entry guaranteed. The terms state that each account can have 94 total entries, thus 500 x 94 = 47,000 points minimum! You can also win trips to Orlando, New York City, and Paris, along with 1,000,000 IHG points! Check out full terms of the promo here.

How Do I Enter?

  1. If you don't have an IHG account, you need to open one.
  2. Next, you need to register your account for this promotion.
  3. On a 3 x 5 piece of paper, handwrite the following information (the terms specify that you must handwrite every single piece of information, you do not, however, need to write out all 8 categories):
    • Full Name
    • Address
    • Daytime Phone Number
    • Evening Phone Number
    • Email address (make sure this is very legible!)
    • IHG number
    • First 6 digits of a MasterCard (does not have to be an IHG card)
    • Date of birth
  4. The terms again state that "use of any automated system to participate is prohibited and will result in disqualification", however reports from those who have participated, have shown successful entries were received even via printing the addresses on their envelopes or on labels. You need to then send all 94 entries to the following address:
    • IHG and MasterCard Priceless Surprises Promotion, c/o HelloWorld, Inc., P.O. Box 5996, Kalamazoo, MI 49003-5996

  5. Each entry needs to be separately placed in its own individual envelope.

What Materials Will I Need?

  1. Purchase at least 94 3 x 5 index cards: I got mine from Staples, 500 index cards for $5.49 (I have 300 left, so if you're local to me and want to do this, let me know!), to make use of my Chase Ink card for 5x the points. But Amazon is also another option, 300 index cards for $2.29.
  2. Purchase at least 94 envelopes: I got mine from Amazon, 100 self-sealing envelopes for $6.99.
  3. Purchase at least 94 stamps: This will cost you $46.06 at your local USPS, or like myself, you can get them at Staples to again make use of the 5x the points on a Chase Ink card.

Conclusion

So as you can see, this will be a semi-tedious/time consuming promo to complete. And if you're nuts like me, it will take even longer as you will do it twice -- once for you, and once for your spouse/partner. However, the 47,000 points is valued at approximately $330 and there is always the possibility of winning more than 47,000 points, so what's a couple hours of writing, eh? IHG also puts out what they call PointBreaks hotels, every 2 months, for the following 2 months, where a select group of hotels only cost 5,000/night. So if you were to take advantage, you're looking at close to 10 nights for $55! I just finished writing my first set of 94 cards, printing my envelopes and mailing them out is all I have left... until the 2nd set! HA! Will you be participating in this promo? Is your hand cramping yet? :)
